Frequently asked questions
Nutivio is a mobile app that helps you understand packaged food. Scan a barcode to see the Nutivio Score, a clear breakdown of nutrition, ingredients, allergens and additives, what's good about the product, what to watch out for, and better-scoring alternatives.
Yes. Scanning barcodes and everything you see about a scanned product are free with an account, along with your history, favourites and better alternatives. Premium adds search by name, brand or barcode, personal food preferences with allergen alerts, and offline access to products you've already scanned.
In the UK, Premium is £1.99 a month or £14.99 a year, which works out at about £1.25 a month. Both plans include search, food preference alerts and offline mode. The annual plan comes with a 7-day free trial, one per Nutivio account. You subscribe through the App Store or Google Play, and the app always shows the price your store will charge before you confirm.
With Premium, products you've already scanned, saved or favourited are kept on your phone, encrypted, so you can view them without a connection. The offline copy holds up to 500 products for up to 30 days each and is removed when you sign out. Looking up a barcode for the first time needs an internet connection.
Each product gets a score from 0 to 100 made of three parts: nutrition (up to 65 points), additives (up to 20) and processing (up to 15). Scores of 80 and above are Excellent, 60 to 79 Good, 35 to 59 Poor and below 35 Bad. The thresholds come from public sources such as the UK Food Standards Agency's traffic-light criteria, and every product page shows what raised or lowered its score.
We tell you. The product page shows what's missing and how confident the score is. If too much key nutrition information is missing, you'll see Insufficient data instead of a score, because we'd rather be honest than guess.
No. With Premium, food preferences such as allergens, vegetarian or vegan diets, or avoiding palm oil appear as separate alerts on each product: Contains, May contain, or Can't confirm when data is missing. Nutivio never labels a product as safe, and the score means the same thing for everyone. Product data can be incomplete, so always check the label on the pack, especially for allergens.
Mostly from Open Food Facts, an open database of food products built by volunteers, used under the Open Database Licence, with images under Creative Commons BY-SA. Our team adds corrections when something is wrong, and every product page shows its source and when it was last updated.
Yes. Nutivio is funded by Premium subscriptions. We don't show adverts, we don't sell your data, and no brand can pay to change a score or appear as a recommended alternative.
No. Nutivio gives general information about what's in packaged food, compared against general dietary guidance. It doesn't diagnose or treat anything and isn't a substitute for advice from a doctor or registered dietitian.
Your account keeps your history, favourites, food preferences and Premium together, so they follow you to a new phone, even between iPhone and Android. We only ask for your first name, an email address and a password, and you'll verify your email with a 6-digit code.
You can add it from the app by taking photos of the pack, the ingredients and the nutrition table. Our team reviews submissions, and once the product is added, it can be scored.
Cancel in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings at least 24 hours before your renewal or trial end date. Deleting the app or your Nutivio account doesn't cancel a subscription. You keep Premium until the end of the period you've paid for.
Yes, at any time and from within the app. Go to Account, then Privacy, to export a copy of your data or to delete your account and personal data.
