Four levels, always explained

High risk
Prohibited in EU cosmetics, or banned or strictly limited for a documented health reason.
Moderate risk
Restricted in the EU (a maximum amount, product type or warning), or the subject of an adverse EU safety opinion.
Low risk
Must be named on the label as an allergen, or a known mild irritant for some people.
Risk-free
No concern found in our sources. That isn’t a claim of proven safety. These are summarised so the list stays readable.
How the score works
Every product starts at 100. A high-risk ingredient takes off 45 points, a moderate one 20 and a low one 4, and only the first few at each level count, so a long list of mild allergens can’t outweigh a banned substance. The result uses the same bands as food: 80 and above is Excellent, 60 to 79 Good, 35 to 59 Poor and below 35 Bad.
A product needs at least three readable ingredients to be scored. Labels don’t show amounts, so a flag describes the ingredient, not how much of it is in the product.
